Jesus, the Word of Life

John 1:1-2 ; 1John 1:2

Have you ever wondered why Jesus, our Savior, is also called the “Word” in the Bible ? It seems that the answer to this question is in Hebrews 1:2 ; a revelation that in these last days, God speaks to us more directly by his Son. Not by the prophets, nor by the Judges, but his beloved Son. Now, if God speaks to us through his Son, isn’t that the evidence that the Son is the “Word” to us ?

The Word (the Son of God) existed in the beginning, that is, before creation. Since the beginning of times is dated from creation, when all creatures were brought into being (See Genesis chapter 1, 2), they found the Word in being (Proverbs 8:22-23).

The Word was with God in the beginning, co-existing with God the Father from eternity, clothed with divine glory, and delighting before him always (See John 17:5 ; Proverbs 8:30).

The Word is God. In him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily. Jesus himself told the Jews in John 10:30 ; “I and the Father we are one”.

The Word of God is life. In him and through him, the life (eternal life) which was with the Father was made manifest to us (1John 1:2).

Glory be to Jesus, our Word of life. In him we have known the light and we have inherited eternal life.

In Christ.
