Switzerland has become the latest country to legalize same-sex marriage following a nationwide referendum that was conducted in September 2021.

Abnormality is taking place of the normality

In our present world, abnormality is taking over the normality at an alarming pace. Ungodliness is being enthroned and perversion inspired by the lusts of human hearts is replacing the truth of God. Occurrences such as same-sex marriage, abortion, pornography and divorce are becoming the norms in many countries, in what is branded “social progress”, and massive means and efforts mobilized to portray the moral deviation of our modern-day generation as a positive and necessary social progress !

Although unrighteousness has been a constant aspect of human experience, dating back from creation, there are non-deceptive signs showing that the level of perversion in the present world is reaching unprecedented dimensions. Some statistics are truly mind-blowing :

• Same-sex marriage is now legally recognized in more than 30 countries around the world (the Pew Research Center), with Switzerland the latest country to add up on that list ;

• Access to porn images has become incredibly easy and widespread due to the wide variety of channels of transmission now available, not least the socio media, porn websites, and more.

• An incredible 73 million induced abortions take place worldwide each year, according to the World Health Organization.

• In Rwanda, the number of people seeking divorce increased steeply over the recent years, mainly due to domestic violence and economic disputes. With a total number of just 21 divorce cases decided by courts in 2016, the numbers raised up to 69 cases in 2017 before reaching 1,311 cases in 2018, and 8,941 cases in 2019 (Supreme Court data). In the US, the average length of marriage before divorce is just eight years. In Italy, the typical couple stays married for 17 years and the divorce rate is around 42%. In Qatar, the divorce rate is 69.5%, with marriages lasting less than 5 years on average (www.brides.com magazine).

How did we get there ?

How did we get to the point where people are opposing what God prescribed as natural since creation with unrighteousness and ungodliness ? Why is sexual perversion thriving ? Why are our moral values changing, toward ungodliness ? It is by denying God’s revealed truth and turning away from him that “God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever ! Amen” (Romans 1:24-25).

It is important to notice the use of “them” and “they” in this passage. A suggestion that the whole society in which we live has been corrupted. Not only a particular individual, but the very foundation of our moral values has been shuffled as a result of the rejection of our creator.

Conclusion

God was and is the standard of all that is right and good. Abnormality and unrighteousness may be gaining momentum, but that won’t change the nature of God. He is holy and separated from all that is defiled and imperfect. Let us come back to the ways of God. Let us model every aspect of our existence into the image of God.
